The word Aquamarine is derived from two Latin words: aqua meaning "water" and marina meaning "of the sea." There are many different historical meanings and lore surrounding this beautiful blue stone. The Greeks and Romans knew this gem as the sailor's gem, ensuring safe passage and voyage across stormy seas. According to old folklore it is said that this gem would bring victory in battle and legal disputes. It is also said that this gem was the most appropriate gift for a husband to give his new wife the morning after consummating their marriage.
This gorgeous stone has a variety of different colors from the light blue of the sky, to the light greenish blue and deep greenish blue of the ocean. The amazing beryl mineral captures almost very color of the sea.
"The lovely aquamarine, which seems to have come from some mermaid's treasure house, in the depths of a summer sea, has charms not to be denied." - Pliny the Elder
